Yass Scans : EP 1 & 3

YS: Ep 1 (16k Scanned Mossy Stone)

.
I've been practicing photogrammetry for a year now, and learning a lot about scanning surfaces and objects to get clean results.

Today, I'm excited to share my first scan series. Starting with this beautiful mossy stone surface from the Dougga archaeological site.

First, I took multiple shots from various angles. Then, I cleaned the shots, fixed the angles, and removed shadows caused by the sun. Later, I created the necessary textures and made them tileable. Finally, I rendered the final 16k textures in Marmoset Toolbag.

YS: Ep 3 (16k Scanned Roman Wall)

.
In my latest one for this series, I'm back to some complex surface textures, which proved to be quite demanding to achieve satisfactory results. Due to the limited capture hardware (Using only my phone), the scan process was a bit hard compared to the previous ones.

There were two main issues with that one: keeping the same height values of the real-life surface and capturing the texture in sunlight. Unfortunately, the height in the final scan wasn't 100% accurate but I've tried my best to achieve a good one. And to get rid of the shadows caused by sunlight, I've reworked my Delight process in order to achieve a clean diffuse map with no shadowed areas.

The final 16k results were rendered in marmoset Toolbag.
